Coast Mountain College

Coast Mountain College (formerly known as Northwest Community College / NWCC) is an accredited post-secondary institution that serves the rich and diverse communities and learners of BC’s beautiful northwest region including Haida Gwaii and the Great Bear Rainforest. Established in 1975 in Terrace, BC, our College has expanded to seven regional campuses serving 34 communities where the College provides students with innovative programs that lead to sustainable careers for people in the North.

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) offers quality and affordable education and a wide variety of certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees. Where applicable, CMTN promotes experiential learning scenarios for its students that highlight the region’s unique cultural heritages, that connect them to community and provide interaction with the region’s spectacular and rugged environment.

The College’s innovative programs and courses respond to the changing needs of learners, delivering the skills necessary in today’s competitive job markets. CMTN offers college access programs; health and human services programs; online programs; university credit programs, trades foundation and apprenticeship programs; plus the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art and The School of Exploration & Mining.

CMTN is a recognized leader in Indigenous education. Indigenous peoples comprise roughly 30 percent of the region’s population, the highest among all BC college regions. At CMTN, Indigenous students make up nearly 40 per cent of the student body. This success is attributed to the college’s collaboration with surrounding First Nations communities. These communities have been crucial in developing programs that allow our Indigenous students to rediscover their culture through education.
