Police Scotland International Academy

Police Scotland is Scotland's national police service, responsible for enforcing law and order throughout the country. It was established in 2013, merging eight regional police forces into a single organization. With a workforce of over 23,000 officers and staff, Police Scotland provides a range of services including crime prevention, community policing, emergency response, counter-terrorism and learning, training and development. The organisation is committed to protecting human rights, ensuring public safety, and fostering strong community relations.

The Police Scotland International Academy (PSIA) is based at Tulliallan Castle and serves as a central hub for coordinating and delivering Police Scotland’s non-operational international activities. The Academy focuses on enhancing global opportunities for police training, development, and support, benefiting both Scottish and international communities. It aligns its efforts with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and fosters effective partnerships with organisations that share Police Scotland's values and ethics.

The PSIA has a strong emphasis on exchanging information, experience, and support with police services worldwide. Over the past decade, Scottish policing has supported the development of police services overseas, hosting officers from various continents and conducting bespoke training programs tailored to the unique challenges of each country. The Academy also collaborates with public sector, third sector, and academic partners to strengthen its reach and impact.

The Academy was officially opened by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and aims to support human rights across the world. It facilitates shared learning and collaboration with international police forces, contributing to global citizenship and addressing challenges such as gender-based violence.
