Centre for Arctic Studies(CAS)

The Centre for Arctic Studies (CAS) located at INS Mandovi, Goa, India was established in 2022 with the aim of promoting the global good by harnessing the greater knowledge base of the Arctic region. It is one of the premier educational centres of the country which focuses on building awareness and knowledge of the Arctic region, especially within the policy makers form various ministries including Ministry of Earth sciences and Defence. It is majorly dedicated to improving the understanding of the region as well as address the unique challenges of the region. It undertakes studies to draw out implications from the changes in the region. It is one of the most prominent academic research institutions in the country which contributes to the policy matters related to the region.

The Centre takes an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together scholars from various fields to facilitate research on the Arctic region. It encourages in-depth research by participants every six monthly with extensive interactions with national and international Subject Matter Experts on various topics related to the region. It is expanding its scope of research to interact with various think tanks within the country as well as beyond to effectively compile advice on policy matters relevant to the country wrt the region.
