Millennium Institute Biodiversity of Antarctic and Subantarctic Ecosystems (BASE)
IBASE is a non-profit foundation created in 2021 to promote the Millennium Institute Biodiversity of Antarctic and Subantarctic Ecosystems (BASE) project. We study the past, present, and future of Antarctic and Subantarctic biodiversity: the fate of a unique biota in a changing world.
The Millennium Institute BASE brings together specialists in biodiversity, conservation, and international law to integrate advanced knowledge related to the Southern Ocean. We aim for this knowledge to be used in decision-making processes focused on conservation and the development of ideas and new projects, thereby contributing to the creation of new proposals for Antarctic governance based on science, peace, and sustainability.
The Millennium Institute BASE is composed of 11 principal researchers, 9 associate members, and a significant number of young researchers at various stages of training. We strive to promote gender equity; since our inception, 40% of our team has been made up of female researchers and professionals.
