Antioch College, founded in 1852, established Antioch University New England (AUNE) in 1964. AUNE has a grand vision: enabling graduates who know that one person can make a difference. Our doctoral, master’s and certificate programs in education, environmental studies, management, and psychology prepare our students to be agents of positive change in their careers and vocations. AUNE, as one of five campuses of Antioch University, is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

AUNE is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. We have a history of rigorous academic standards, integration of work and study, commitment to social justice, and learner responsibility. These values are intertwined with the New England traditions of self-reliance, small community values, and private action for the public good.

Horace Mann (Antioch College's founder) implored the first graduating class in 1859 to win some victories for humanity. That call to serving and changing the world remains in our AUNE DNA. We are committed to preparing our graduate students for meaningful work, selfless service, and lifelong learning. We encourage them to do their own small part to ensure social, environmental, and economic justice.

Ours is a unique institution: graduate students only (2/3 masters; 1/3 doctoral); graduate programs that meld theory and practice; course schedules that accommodate working adults; national and international reputation; small and intimate learning environment; world-class faculty.

We have realized that the world's high latitudes offer challenges and opportunities that can enrich AUNE learning, scholarship, and engagement. We have a special focus on environmental studies and sustainability. AUNE's President Steve Jones is a forester with a doctoral degree in natural resources management. Our President also enjoys a strong affinity to the North. Dr. Jones, as then Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, served three years as Chair of the UArctic governing Board. He visited four universities and three research institutes in September, 2014 in Finland, Norway, and Sweden.
