The 2nd International Conferene "In the Spirit of the Rovaniemi Process – Local and Global Arctic" takes place 24-26 November 2015 in  Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland. The conference now kindly invites abstracts for oral presentations in the thematic sessions (see the list below).

At the beginning of February, a delegation of 39 staff members from the College of Social Education in Ilulissat, Greenland, took the trip to Norway to visit UiT The Arctic University of Norway, campus Alta.

The International Summer School "Social Work from a Global Perspective" in Rovaniemi, Finland (20 May-4 June 2015) enables students and professionals in social work and related human service fields to explore the meanings, practices and implications of social work from a global perspective. The Master’s programmes at the University of Akureyri are the first of their kind in the world and provide a unique focus on Polar Law. All the Polar Law subjects are taught in English, and new students to the programmes are accepted every other year. The application process to begin studies in 2015 is now open!

The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), together with the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS), recently announced the start of the second edition of the IASC Fellowship Program. The 12th International Summer School in Karelia (ISSK) will take place in Petrozavodsk, Russia on 17–24 May 2015. The main theme of the Summer School is Resources and Security in the Barents Sea Area.

University of Alaska Fairbanks organizes a three-week field course on Arctic environmental change on 10-30 June 2015 in the Fairbanks area, focusing on the geology, permafrost, landforms, soils, vegetation and wildlife of boreal, alpine and Arctic environments. Registration begins on 23 February 2015.

Tyumen State Oil and Gas University's  rector made a speech ‘The role of human resources in development of the Arctic’ at the Tyumen region Academic meeting. The meeting of the region’s leading scientists was devoted to the Russian Science Day and addressed among other issues  development of the Arctic.

University Centre of the Westfjords organizes two field courses on innovations in aquaculture (22-27 March 2015) and marine resource utilisation (28 March-3 April 2015). The courses are offered in the Marine Innovation master’s program but are open to external participants. Apply by 6 March 2015.

On February 10 Surgut State University will celebrate the Day of Russian science.

The 6th Arctic Business Forum on March 10–12, 2015 in Rovaniemi, Finland introduces the latest business development and future prospects of the European High North economy. ArcticBusiness Forum is a discussion arena and a business to business meeting point.

The lecture “Future of Arctic cooperation in light of recent tensions with Russia”, organized at the University of Lapland on Feb 18, 2015, is given by the highly respected professor and author Michael Byers, Canadian Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
