Early April, UArctic Chair in Cryospheric Science Alun Hubbard, along with his colleague Hannah Bailey, both from University of Oulu, in collaboration with colleagues Andy Hodson University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS), Will Hertz from Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU), and Andy Mitchell (Aberystwyth University), successfully acquired samples and firn cores of up to 15 m depth from Lomonosovfonna ice cap and other locations. The purpose of the trip was to investigate changing atmospheric circulation patters and their impact on glacier and ice cap health, organic pollutants and biogeochemical processes. a team of international researchers has recently completed a successful field campaign in Svalbard, gathering valuable ice core and snow samples to study the effects of changing atmospheric circulation patterns on Arctic glaciers.

"Despite temperatures down to -36°C, the fieldwork went very smoothly - blessed with crisp weather and was most enjoyable" said Alun Hubbard about the expedition.
