Reminder: UArctic Congress 2026: Submit a Session Proposal by July 31

Submit a session proposal for the UArctic Congress 2026! The deadline has been extended to 31 July 2025. The proposal submission form is also now available online.

The 2026 Congress themes are aligned with the Kingdom of Denmark’s priorities for its Arctic Council chairship program. As a unique feature, the event will also incorporate the Ocean Conference, scheduled to be held in the Faroe Islands in 2026, with the aim of enhancing collaboration in marine science.

We invite session proposals that align with the Congress themes:

  • Sustainable Economic Development and International Cooperation
  • Oceans
  • Climate Change in the Arctic
  • Biodiversity
  • Indigenous Peoples and Northern Communities

For full theme descriptions and a list of sub-themes, please read the full call for session proposals. Session proposals that do not directly match a listed theme may be submitted under the category "Other", provided their relevance is clearly explained.

We especially encourage sessions that include the participation of Indigenous peoples, youth, and local communities, and that apply transdisciplinary approaches to research and dialogue. Sessions can include oral and/or poster presentations, panel discussions, and roundtable dialogues. The official language of the Congress is English.

Note that we only accept proposals sent via the Oxford Abstracts online submission form, available here. Please read the call and submission guidelines carefully before submitting your proposal.

The deadline for session proposals is 31 July 2025.

The UArctic Congress 2026 takes place from May 26 to 29, 2026 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands and is hosted by the University of the Faroe Islands in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade, and the Faroe Marine Research Institute.

Note about traveling to the Faroe Islands

More information will be published on the Congress webpages in due time, but as people are already starting to think about their travels, we'd like to address a couple potential concerns our participants might have:

  • Accommodation. The local organizers have made block reservations at all hotels in Tórshavn and around, and the rooms will be released for participant bookings when the Congress registration opens.
  • Air travel. If flights to the Faroe Islands around the arrival days are getting full, the local airline will add more flights.

The UArctic Congress is a biennial event that brings together a science conference and key UArctic meetings into a single gathering. With the aim to foster contacts and enhance networking, the UArctic Congress brings together institutional leaders, Indigenous representatives, academics, scientists, and students from around the Circumpolar North and beyond. Together with partners, policy makers, and other actors, the Congress strives to take the Arctic agenda forward by creating and strengthening collaborations that produce new findings and solutions for the future of the Arctic region.

In addition to high-level plenary and parallel sessions, the Congress also includes the UArctic Assembly and Rectors meetings, as well as networking and social events. It is therefore an excellent platform for all UArctic members to engage with each other, establish new connections, and promote cooperation in circumpolar research and higher education.
