By the deadline, a total of 219 session proposals were submitted for the UArctic Congress 2026, the fifth of its kind to date.
The session call was focused on five themes: Sustainable Economic Development and International Cooperation; Oceans; Climate Change in the Arctic; Biodiversity; and Indigenous Peoples and Northern Communities. In addition, sessions with clear relevance could also be proposed under the "Other" category.
The submissions will next go through a review. Decisions on the final acceptance of sessions will be announced to the submitters at the end of September. The call for abstracts is planned to be open from mid-October until the end of November.
The UArctic Congress 2026 will take place from May 26 to 29, 2026 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. The event is hosted by the University of the Faroe Islands (Setur), in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade, and the Faroe Marine Research Institute.

About travelling to Faroe Islands
More information will be published on the Congress webpages in due time, but as people are already starting to think about their travels, we'd like to address a couple potential concerns our participants might have:
Accommodation. The local organizers have made block reservations at all hotels in Tórshavn and around, and the rooms will be released for participant bookings when the Congress registration opens.
Air travel. If flights to the Faroe Islands around the arrival days are getting full, the local airline will add more flights.
